حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَنَقُولُ بِأَيْدِينَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَقَالَ «مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يُلْقُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمُسٍ أَلَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَوْ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ»

✧ I heard Jabir b. Samurah say: We used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ and we would say with our hands, "Peace be upon you, peace be upon you." He said: "What is the matter with people who fling their hands as if they were the tails of spirited horses? Is it not enough for one of you — or rather, it is enough for one of you — to place his hand on his thigh and then greet his brother on his right and left?"
