حَدَّثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَلَطِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَبَّارُ ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ قَالُوا ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادِ بْنِ لَقِيطٍ عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ سَرْحَانَ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَكَلَ طَعَامًا فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ وَقَدْ كَانَ تَوَضَّأَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَانْتَهَرَنِي فَسَاءَنِي ذَلِكَ وَاللهِ فَشَكَوْتُ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ قَدْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ انْتِهَارُكَ إِيَّاهُ وَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي نَفْسِكَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ فِي نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا خَيْرٌ وَلَكِنَّهُ أَتَانِي بِمَاءٍ لِأَتَوَضَّأَ وَإِنَّمَا أَكَلْتُ طَعَامًا وَلَوْ فَعَلْتُ فَعَلَ النَّاسُ بَعْدِي»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate some food, and then the prayer was commenced. He stood up, having already performed ablution before that. I brought him water to perform ablution, but he scolded me. That distressed me, by Allah, so I complained to Umar. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, al-Mughirah b. Shu'bah has been hurt by your scolding him, and he fears that you may hold something against him." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I hold nothing against him but good. However, he brought me water to perform ablution, but I had only eaten food. If I had done so, the people after me would have done it."
