حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ثنا مُنِيبُ بْنُ مُدْرِكِ بْنِ مُنِيبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لِلنَّاسِ قُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ تُفْلِحُوا فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَفَلَ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ حَثَا عَلَيْهِ التُّرَابَ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ سَبَّهُ حَتَّى انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ فَأَقْبَلَتْ جَارِيَةٌ بِعُسٍّ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ أَوْ يَدَيْهِ وَقَالَ «يَا بُنَيَّةُ لَا تَخْشَى عَلَى أَبِيكِ عَيْلَةً وَلَا ذِلَّةً» فَقُلْتُ مَنْ هَذِهِ؟ قَالُوا زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ جَارِيَةٌ وَضِيئَةٌ

✧ I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ in the pre-Islamic period saying to the people: “Say: There is no god but God, and you will prosper.” Some of them spat in his face, some threw dust at him, and some insulted him, until midday came. Then a young girl came with a bowl of water and washed his face and hands, and he said: “O my little daughter, do not fear poverty or humiliation for your father.” I asked: Who is this? They said: Zaynab bt. the Messenger of God ﷺ, and she was a radiant young girl.
