حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَهْبِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبْدُوسَ بْنِ كَامِلٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا أَبِي كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُكَانَةَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِيهَا مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا سَرَقَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تِلْكَ الْقَطِيفَةَ مِنْ بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِهَا أَعْظَمَنَا ذَلِكَ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَجِئْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَلَّمْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا نَحْنُ نَفْدِيهَا بِأَرْبَعِينَ أُوقِيَّةً فَقَالَ «تُطَهَّرُ خَيْرٌ لَهَا» فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَا لِينَ قَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَتَيْنَا أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ كَمْ نَتَكَلَّمُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي شَأْنِ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةِ وَنَحْنُ نَفْدِيهَا بِأَرْبَعِينَ أُوقِيَّةً فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ خَطِيبًا فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ» مَا إِكْثَارُكُمْ عَلَيَّ فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللهِ وَقَعَ عَلَى أَمَةٍ مِنْ إِمَاءِ اللهِ؟ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ كَانَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَزَلَتْ بِالَّذِي نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَأَقَمْتُ عَلَيْهَا الْحَدَّ

✧ When the woman stole that velvet cloak from the house of the Messenger of God ﷺ and he ordered that her hand be cut off, that weighed heavily on us. She was a woman of Quraysh, so we came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and spoke to him, saying, "We will ransom her for forty uqiyyahs." He said, "Let her be purified; that is better for her." When we heard the gentleness in the Messenger of God's ﷺ words, we went to Usama b. Zayd and said to him, "Will you not speak to the Messenger of God ﷺ about the matter of this woman, for we will ransom her for forty uqiyyahs?" When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw that, he stood up to give a sermon and said, "O people, why do you keep pressing me regarding one of the prescribed punishments of God that has fallen upon a servant woman among God's maidservants? By Him in whose hand my soul is, if Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, had done what this woman did, I would carry out the punishment on her."
