حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ عَنْ شَيْبَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ عَنْ جَبْرِ بْنِ عَتِيكٍ قَالَ
«سَأَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي مَسْجِدِ بَنِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ثَلَاثًا فَأُعْطِيَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَمَنَعَهُ وَاحِدَةً سَأَلَهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَ أُمَّتَهُ جُوعًا وَلَا يُظْهِرَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا فَأُعْطِيَهَا وَسَأَلَهُ أَنْ لَا يَجْعَلَ بَأْسَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ فَمُنِعَهَا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked in the mosque of Banū Muʿāwiya for three things, and he was given two and denied one. He asked Him that He should not destroy his nation by famine, and that He should not give an enemy dominance over them, and he was given these. And he asked Him that He should not put their misfortune among themselves, and he was denied that.
