حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنِي الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تُدْنِا الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ كَمِقْدَارِ مِيلٍ» قَالَ سُلَيْمٌ وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا عَنَى بِالْمِيلِ؟ مَسَافَةً مِنَ الْأَرْضِ؟ أَمِ الْمِيلَ الَّذِي يُكْحَلُ بِهِ الْعَيْنُ؟ قَالَ «فَيَكُونُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ فِي الْعَرَقِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى كَعْبَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى حِقْوَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلجَمُ الْعَرَقَ إِلْجَامًا» وَأَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى فِيهِ

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will be brought near to the creation until it is from them at a distance of a mīl.” Sulaym said: By Allah, I do not know what he meant by “mīl”—a distance on land, or the mīl (kohl stick) used to apply kohl to the eye? He ﷺ said: “Then people will be in sweat according to their deeds. Among them will be one whose sweat reaches his ankles, among them one whose reaches his knees, among them one whose reaches his waist, and among them one who will be bridled by sweat completely.” And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured toward his mouth.
