حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَيَّاشِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُعَارِكِ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ غَافِقٍ كَانَ لَهُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ مَهْرَةَ مِائَةُ دِينَارٍ فِي زَمَنِ عُثْمَانَ فَغَنِمُوا غَنِيمَةً حَسَنَةً قَالَ الْمَهْرِيُّ أُعَجِّلُ لَكَ سَبْعِينَ دِينَارًا عَلَى أَنْ تَمْحُوَ عَنِّي الْمِائَةَ وَكَانَتِ الْمِائَةُ مُشَاجَرَةً فَرَضِيَ بِذَلِكَ الْغَافِقِيُّ فَمَرَّ بِهِمَا الْمِقْدَادُ فَأَخَذَ بِلِجَامِ دَابَّتِهِ لِيُشْهِدَهُ فَلَمَّا قَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ «كِلَاكُمَا قَدْ أُذِنَ بِحَرْبٍ مِنَ اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ»

✧ A man from Ghafiq owed a man from Mahrah one hundred dinars during the time of ʿUthman. They acquired good spoils of war. The Mahri said, "I will hasten to you seventy dinars on condition that you cancel the hundred from me." The hundred was disputed. The Ghafiqi agreed to that. Then al-Miqdad passed by them, and he took hold of the rein of his mount to make him a witness. When he related the account to him, he said: "Both of you have been warned of war from Allah and His Messenger."
