حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ثنا عَمِّي ثنا ابْنُ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيُّ ثُمَّ الْجُنْدَعِيُّ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو كَانَ حَلِيفًا لِبَنِي زُهْرَةَ وَكَانَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَقِيتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ فَاقْتَتَلْنَا فَضَرَبَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ لَاذَ مِنِّي بِشَجَرَةٍ فَقَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِلَّهِ أَقْتُلُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ فَإِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ فَإِنَّهُ بِمَنْزِلَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَهُ وَإِنَّكَ بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُولَ كَلِمَتَهُ الَّتِي قَالَ»

✧ He informed him that al-Miqdad b. ʿAmr was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and was among those who witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He informed him that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if I meet a man from the disbelievers and we fight, and he strikes one of my hands with a sword and cuts it off, then he seeks refuge from me behind a tree and says, 'I have submitted to Allah.' Should I kill him, O Messenger of Allah, after he has said that?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not kill him, for if you were to kill him, he would be in your position before you killed him, and you would be in his position before he uttered his word that he said."
