حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ عَطَاءَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَدِيٍّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَقِيتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَاتَلَنِي فَضَرَبَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ لَاذَ مِنِّي بِشَجَرَةٍ وَقَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِلَّهِ أَقْتُلُهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ قَطَعَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ ذَلِكَ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَطَعَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ فَإِنَّهُ بِمَنْزِلَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَهُ وَإِنَّكَ بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُولَ كَلِمَتَهُ الَّتِي قَالَ»

✧ He informed him that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if I meet a man from the polytheists and he fights me, and he strikes one of my hands and cuts it off, then he seeks refuge from me behind a tree and says, 'I have submitted to Allah.' Should I kill him after he has said that?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not kill him after he has said that." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, he cut off one of my hands, then he said that after cutting it off." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If you kill him, then he is in your position before you kill him, and you are in his position before he uttered his word that he said."
