حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ قَاتَلَنِي فَاخْتَلَفْنَا ضَرْبَتَيْنِ فَضَرَبَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ لَاذَ مِنِّي بِشَجَرَةٍ فَقَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ أَفَأَقْتُلُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا؟ قَالَ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ فَإِنَّكَ» إِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ كَانَ بِمَنْزِلَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَهُ وَكُنْتَ بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُولَ كَلِمَتَهُ الَّتِي قَالَ

✧ He informed him that he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "What do you think of a man from the disbelievers who fought me, and we exchanged two blows. He struck one of my hands with a sword and cut it off, then he sought refuge from me behind a tree and said, 'I have embraced Islam.' Should I kill him, O Messenger of Allah, after he has said that?" He said: "Do not kill him, for if you were to kill him, he would be in your position before you killed him, and you would be in his position before he uttered his word that he said."
