حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ ثُمَّ الْجُنْدَعِيِّ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْكِنْدِيَّ كَانَ حَلِيفًا لِبَنِي زُهْرَةَ وَكَانَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَقِيتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ فَاقْتَتَلْنَا فَضَرَبَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ لَاذَ مِنِّي بِشَجَرَةٍ فَقَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِلَّهِ أَأَقْتُلُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ قَطَعَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدَ مَا قَطَعَهَا أَفَأَقْتُلُهُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ فَإِنَّكَ» إِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ فَإِنَّهُ بِمَنْزِلَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَهُ وَأَنْتَ بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُولَ كَلِمَتَهُ الَّتِي قَالَ

✧ He reported to him that al-Miqdad b. ʿAmr al-Kindi, who was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and was among those who witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, related to him that he said: O Messenger of Allah, if I meet a man from the disbelievers and we fight, and he strikes one of my hands with the sword and cuts it off, then he takes refuge from me behind a tree and says: “I have submitted to Allah.” Should I kill him, O Messenger of Allah, after he has said it? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not kill him.” He said: O Messenger of Allah, he cut off one of my hands, then he said that after cutting it off. Should I kill him? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not kill him. For if you kill him, then he is in your position before you kill him, and you are in his position before he said his word that he said.”
