حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي دَاوُدَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ قَالَ قَالَ
الْمِقْدَادُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَقِيتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ فَقَاتَلَنِي فَضَرَبَ إِحْدَى يَدَيَّ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ لَاذَ مِنِّي بِشَجَرَةٍ وَقَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِلَّهِ أَفَأَقْتُلُهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَهَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ» قَالَ إِنَّهُ قَطَعَ يَدِي ثُمَّ قَالَ ذَلِكَ بَعْدَ مَا قَطَعَهَا؟ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُ فَإِنَّكَ» إِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ كَانَ بِمَنْزِلَتِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَهُ وَكُنْتَ أَنْتَ بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُولَ كَلِمَتَهُ الَّتِي قَالَ

✧ Al-Miqdad said to the Prophet ﷺ: O Prophet of Allah, what do you think if I meet a man from the disbelievers and he fights me, and he strikes one of my hands with the sword and cuts it off, then he takes refuge from me behind a tree and says: “I have submitted to Allah.” Should I kill him after he has said it, O Prophet of Allah? He said: “Do not kill him.” He said: He cut off my hand, then he said that after cutting it off? The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not kill him. For if you kill him, he will be in your position before you kill him, and you will be in his position before he said his word that he said.”
