✧ Mu’adh b. Jabal said: I said, “O Messenger of God, give me counsel.” He said, “Worship God as though you see Him, count yourself among the dead, remember God ﷻ by every rock and every tree, and if you commit a bad deed, then perform beside it a good deed: the secret for the secret and the open for the open.” Then he said, “Shall I not tell you what gives a person most control over that?” I said, “Yes, O Messenger of God.” He took hold of the tip of his tongue. I said, “O Messenger of God, it is as if he is taking it lightly.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “And does anything cast people upon their faces into the Fire except this?” And he took hold of the tip of his tongue.
