A man had a claim against me, and I feared him. So I stayed home and remained for two days without going out. Then I went out and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: “O Muʿādh, what kept you back?” I said: A man had a right over me; I feared him until I became ashamed, and I disliked that he should meet me. He said: “Shall I not instruct you in some words you can say—if you have debts like mountains, Allah will pay them off for you?” I said: Yes. He said: "Say: (O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will,’ up to His saying, ‘without reckoning,’ to the end, [Al Imran 3:26-27] Merciful of this world and the Hereafter and Compassionate to them both; You grant of them to whom You will and You withhold of them from whom You will. O Allah, enrich me so that I have no need of poverty, pay off my debt for me, and cause me to die in Your service and in striving in Your path.)"
