✧ Whichever part of the day you wish: if you wish, in the morning, and if you wish, in the evening. I said, 'But the people dislike it in the evening.' He said, 'And why?' I said, 'They say that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "The change in the breath of the fasting person is more fragrant with God than the scent of musk."' He said, 'Glory be to God! The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded them to use the tooth-stick when he commanded them, while he knew that there must be some change in the mouth of the fasting person even if he uses the tooth-stick. He was not one to command them to deliberately make their mouths foul. There is no good in that at all; rather, there is evil in it, except for one who is afflicted with an affliction he cannot avoid.' I said, 'And dust in the path of God is likewise? Only the one forced to it and who finds no way around it is rewarded?' He said, 'Yes. As for one who throws himself into affliction deliberately, he has no reward from that.'
