✧ It is narrated from 'Awf b. al-Harith b. Tufayl, the son of 'A'ishah's maternal uncle, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that 'A'ishah told him that 'Abd Allah b. al-Zubayr said about a sale or a gift that 'A'ishah had given: 'By Allah, 'A'ishah must stop, or I will place her under a restriction.' She said: 'Did he say this?' They said: 'Yes.' 'A'ishah said: 'Then it is for Allah a vow that I shall never speak a word to Ibn al-Zubayr ever.' Then Ibn al-Zubayr sought intercession with her when her avoidance of him grew long, and she said: 'By Allah, I will not accept anyone's intercession for him ever, nor will I break my vow that I made ever.' When that grew long for Ibn al-Zubayr, he spoke to al-Miswar b. Makhramah and 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-Aswad b. 'Abd Yaghuth, who were from Banu Zuhrah, and said: 'I adjure you both by Allah to enter me upon 'A'ishah, for it is not lawful for her to vow to sever ties with me.' So al-Miswar b. Makhramah and 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-Aswad brought him, wrapping him in their cloaks, until they sought permission to enter upon 'A'ishah. They said: 'Peace be upon the Prophet and the mercy of Allah. May we enter?' 'A'ishah said: 'Enter.' They said: 'All of us, O Mother of the Believers?' She said: 'Yes, enter, all of you,' while 'A'ishah did not know that Ibn al-Zubayr was with them. When they entered, Ibn al-Zubayr entered the curtain, embraced 'A'ishah, and began adjuring her and weeping. Al-Miswar and 'Abd al-Rahman began adjuring 'A'ishah to speak to him and accept from him, and they said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade what you already know of abandonment, for it is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three nights.' When they repeated the reminder and the admonition to 'A'ishah, she began to remind them and weep and say: 'I have made a vow, and the vow is serious.' They continued with her until she spoke to Ibn al-Zubayr, then she freed forty slaves for her vow. Then she used to remember that vow of hers after she had freed forty slaves and weep until her tears soaked her veil.
