حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ أَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ رَاشِدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ
أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فأَوْعَدَ النِّكَاحَ فَأَتَتْ فَاطِمَةُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ أَنْ لَا تَغْضَبَ لِبَنَاتِكَ وَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا فَاطِمَةُ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ تُفْتَتَنَ» وَذَكَرَ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ فَأَحْسَنَ عَلَيْهِ الثَّنَاءَ وَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَا يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبَيْنَ ابْنَةِ عَدُوِّ اللهِ»

✧ Ali b. Abi Talib proposed to the daughter of Abu Jahl and set a date for the marriage. Fatimah came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'Your people are saying that you do not become angry for your daughters, and 'Ali has proposed to the daughter of Abu Jahl.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood, praised Allah, and extolled Him, then said: 'Fatimah is but a part of me, and I dislike that she be tempted.' He mentioned Abu al-'As b. al-Rabi' and praised him well, and said: 'He will never join the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the daughter of the enemy of Allah.'
