✧ The Prophet ﷺ detained some people from my tribe on suspicion. A man from my tribe came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon and said: O Muhammad, why are my neighbors being held? The Prophet ﷺ remained silent. He said: Some people say that you forbid something and then make it lawful for yourself. The Prophet ﷺ said: “What are you saying?” I began to intervene between them with words, fearing that he would hear it and invoke against my tribe an invocation after which they would never prosper. The Prophet ﷺ kept on until he understood it, then said: “They have said it,” or he said: “He has said it regarding them. By God, if I had done so, it would be against me and not against them. Release his neighbors for him.”
