✧ From Abu Dharr: There was a hadith I had been longing to hear, so I met him and said: O Abu Dharr, a hadith from you had been reaching me, and I had been longing to meet you. He said: May your father be for Allah, you have met me, so bring it. I said: A hadith that reached me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told you. He said: "Allah ﷻ loves three and hates three." He said: I do not at all suppose that I would lie upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: Who are these three whom Allah ﷻ loves? He said: "A man who went on a military expedition in the way of Allah patiently seeking reward and fought until he was killed, and you find him in the Book of Allah ﷻ." Then he recited this verse: {Indeed Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as though they were a solid structure.} I said: And who? He said: "A man who had a bad neighbor who harmed him, and he bore his harm patiently until Allah sufficed him against him by life or death." I said: And who? He said: "A man who traveled with a group, and they journeyed until, when it was the last part of the night, drowsiness or slumber fell upon them, so they dismounted and lay down their heads, then he arose, purified himself and prayed out of desire for Allah ﷻ and desire for what is with Him." I said: And what are the three whom Allah ﷻ hates? He said: The miserly, boastful one, and it is in the Book of Allah ﷻ: {Indeed Allah does not love every self-conceited boaster.} I said: What is the self-conceited boaster? He said: "You find him in the Book of Allah ﷻ, the miserly, self-conceited one." I said: And who? He said: The trader who swears much, or the seller who swears much. He said: I do not know which of the two Abu Dharr said. I said: O Abu Dharr, what is wealth? He said: A measure of dates for us and a small herd of camels. I said: O Abu Dharr, I am not asking you about this; I am asking you about quietly stored wealth. He said: What comes in the morning does not see the evening, and what comes in the evening does not see the morning. I said: What about you and your brothers of Quraysh? He said: By Allah, I will not ask them for a religious ruling, nor ask them for worldly things, until I meet Allah and His Messenger. He said it three times.
