حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خِرَاشٍ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا ذَرًّ بِالرَّبَذَةِ فِي ظُلَّةٍ لَهُ سَوْدَاءَ وَتَحْتَهُ امْرَأَةٌ لَهُ سَمْحَاءُ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ عَلَى قِطْعَةِ جَوَالِقَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا ذَرًّ إِنَّكَ امْرُؤٌ مَا يَبْقَى لَكَ وَلَدٌ فَقَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهُ الَّذِي يَأْخُذُهُمْ فِي الْفِنَاءِ وَيَدَّخِرُهمْ فِي دَارِ الْبَقَاءِ» قَالُوا يَا أَبَا ذَرًّ لَوِ اتَّخَذْتَ امْرَأَةً غَيْرَ هَذِهِ؟ قَالَ «لَأَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً تَضَعُنِي أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَرْفَعُنِي» قَالُوا لَوِ اتَّخَذْتَ بِسَاطًا أَلْيَنَ مِنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ غَفْرًا خُذْ مَا خَوَّلْتَ مَا بَدَا لَكَ»

✧ I saw Abu Dharr at al-Rabadhah in a black shelter of his, and beneath him was a generous wife of his, and he was sitting on a piece of sackcloth. It was said to him: "O Abu Dharr, you are a man who has no children remaining." He said: "Praise be to Allah who takes them in the perishable abode and stores them in the abode of permanence." They said: "O Abu Dharr, would you take a wife other than this one?" He said: "To marry a wife who lowers me is dearer to me than a wife who raises me." They said: "Would you take a carpet softer than this?" He said: "O Allah, forgive. Take what You have granted whenever it pleases You."
