حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ

أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ حِينَ أَعْطَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ مِنْ خُمْسِ خَيْبَرَ وَلَمْ يُعْطِ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ وَلَا بَنِي عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ»

✧ ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān asked the Prophet ﷺ when he gave the Banū Hāshim and the Banū al-Muṭṭalib from the fifth of Khaybar and did not give the Banū ʿAbd Shams or the Banū ʿAbd Manāf. He said, “Indeed, the Banū Hāshim and the Banū al-Muṭṭalib are one and the same.”
