حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنِ السُّمَيْطِ بْنِ سُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ
بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَرِيَّةً فَحَمَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهُ بِالرُّمْحِ قَالَ إِنِّي مُسْلِمٌ فَقَتَلَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَذْنَبْتُ فَاسْتَغْفَرْ لِي قَالَ «وَمَا ذَاكَ؟» قَالَ حَمَلَتُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَلَمَّا غَشَيْتُهُ بِالرُّمْحِ قَالَ إِنِّي مُسْلِمٌ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ مُتَعَوِّذٌ فَقَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ «هَلَّا شَقَقْتَ عَنْ قَلْبِهِ حَتَّى يَسْتَبِينَ لَكَ؟» قَالَ وَيَسْتَبِينُ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «قَدْ قَالَ لَكَ بِلِسَانِهِ فَلَمْ تُصَدِّقْهُ عَلَى مَا قَالَ فِي قَلْبِهِ» قَالَ فَمَاتَ الرَّجُلُ فَدَفَنَّاهُ فَأَصْبَحَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ فَأَمَرْنَا غِلْمَانَنَا فَحَرَسُوهُ فَأَصْبَحَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ فَقُلْنَا غَفَلُوا فَحَرَسْنَاهُ فَأَصْبَحَ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ فَأَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ فَقَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّهَا تُقْبَلُ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُعَلِّمَكُمْ تَعْظِيمَ الدَّمِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «اذْهَبُوا بِهِ إِلَى سَفْحِ هَذَا الْجَبَلِ فَانْضِدُوا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحِجَارَةِ» فَفَعَلْنَا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a military expedition. A man attacked a man from the polytheists, and when he overtook him with the spear, the man said, “I am a Muslim,” but he killed him. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “I have sinned, so seek forgiveness for me.” He said, “What is that?” He said, “I attacked a man from the polytheists, and when I overtook him with the spear, he said, ‘I am a Muslim,’ but I thought he was seeking protection, so I killed him.” He said, “Why did you not split open his heart so that it would become clear to you?” He said, “Would it become clear to me, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “He told you with his tongue, but you did not believe him regarding what was in his heart.” He said, “Then the man died, and we buried him, but in the morning he was on the surface of the earth. We ordered our servants to guard him, but in the morning he was on the surface of the earth. We said they had been negligent, so we guarded him ourselves, but in the morning he was on the surface of the earth. We came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him. He said, “Indeed, it accepts one who is worse than him, but Allah wanted to teach you the sanctity of blood.” Then he said, “Take him to the foot of this mountain and pile stones upon him.” So we did.
