✧ When this mosque, the Congregational Mosque, was built—and ʿImran b. Husayn was sitting there—they mentioned intercession in his presence. A man from the group said, “O Abu Nujayd, you relate to us hadiths for which we find no basis in the Qur’an.” ʿImran b. Husayn became angry and said to a man, “Have you read the Qur’an?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Did you find in it that the sunset prayer is three rakʿahs, the night prayer four, the dawn prayer two, the noon prayer four, and the afternoon prayer four?” He said, “No.” He said, “Then from whom did you take this matter? Did you not take it from us, and we took it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Did you find in the Qur’an that for every forty dirhams one dirham is due, and for every such-and-such number of sheep one sheep, and for every such-and-such number of camels such-and-such?” He said, “No.” He said, “Then from whom did you take this? We took it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you took it from us.” He said, “Did you find in the Qur’an: ‘and let them circumambulate the Ancient House’? Did you find that you should circumambulate seven times and pray two rakʿahs behind the Station? Did you find this in the Qur’an? From whom did you take it? Did you not take it from us, and we took it from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ? Did you find in the Qur’an: no jalab, no janab, and no shighar in Islam?” He said, “No.” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘No jalab, no janab, and no shighar in Islam.’ Did you hear Allah say to some people in His Book: ‘What brought you into Saqar? They said, We were not among those who prayed, and we did not feed the poor’ until He reached ‘so the intercession of intercessors will not benefit them’?” Habib said, “I heard him say ‘intercession.’”
