✧ I set out for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of Tabuk while he was in a tent. He heard the scuff of my feet and said: "Who is this?" I said: "ʿAwf b. Malik." He said: "Enter, O ʿAwf." I said: "All of me, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes." So I entered, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was performing wudu in a thorough manner. He said: "O ʿAwf, six things are before the Hour. Do you count the first of them? The death of your Prophet ﷺ. Say 'one.'" I said: "One." And at that I grieved with a severe grief. Then he said: "The conquest of Iliya. Say 'two.'" I said: "Two." "Then wealth will pour upon you until a man is given a hundred dinars and he is displeased with it. Say 'three.'" I said: "Three." "Then a plague will be sent upon you like the scab of sheep. Say 'four.'" I said: "Four." "Then a tribulation will emerge from among you that will hardly leave a Muslim household without entering it. Say 'five.'" I said: "Five." "Then there will be a truce between you and the Romans, and they will betray it at its end, and they will gather against you as a woman carries a child. Then they will come to you in eighty banners, under each banner eighty thousand."
