حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ النَّحْوِيُّ الصُّورِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِي قَالَا ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَا ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ عِصْمَةَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ الْأُمْلُوكِيِّ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الرَّحَبِيِّ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ
صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى جَنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَاغْفِرِ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ واعْفُ عَنْهُ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَمُنْقَلَبَهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِمَاءٍ وَثَلْجٍ وَبَرَدٍ وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَقِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ» قَالَ عَوْفٌ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَتَمَنَّى فِي مَنَامِي ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا الْمَيِّتُ مَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ لَمَّا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us over the funeral of a man from the Ansar, and I heard him say: “O Allah, send blessings upon him, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, honor his lodging and his final abode, wash him with water, snow, and hail, and purify him of sins as a white garment is purified of dirt. Give him in exchange a home better than his home and a family better than his family, and protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.” ʿAwf said: I saw myself wishing in my sleep for that—that I might be the deceased in place of that Ansari—because of what I saw of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
