✧ We performed Hajj and passed by the road of al-Munkadir, where people used to take it, but we lost the way. While we were thus, suddenly a bedouin appeared as if he had sprung from the earth. He said to me, “O old man, do you know where you are?” I said, “No.” He said, “You are at al-Dhawāʾib, by this white hill that you see—the bones of Bakr b. Wāʾil and Taghlib—and this is the grave of Kulayb, the brother of Muhalhil.” Then he said to me, “Would you like to meet a man who was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ, whose words you may hear?” I said, “Yes.” He took me to a dark tent, and there I saw a man with his eyebrows bound with a bandage. I said, “Who is this?” He said, “Al-ʿAddāʾ b. Khālid b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir, the rider of al-Ḍaḥyāʾ in the Jāhiliyyah.” I said to him, “May Allah have mercy on you, narrate to us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He said, “We were with the Prophet ﷺ when he stood up suddenly as if alarmed. Ibn Masʿūd said to him, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you stood up as if alarmed.’ He said, ‘Beware of the three deceivers.’ Ibn Masʿūd said, ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you, you have told us about the one-eyed Dajjāl and about the most lying of the liars, so who is the third deceiver?’ He said, ‘A man who emerges among a people whose first are afflicted and whose last are cut off, upon them is a perpetual curse, in a tribulation called al-Ḥāriqah, and he is the bald Dajjāl, who devours the servants of Allah.’”
