حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ خَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْعَوْصِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ الرُّؤَاسِيِّ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو
عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي عِلْمِ السُّنَّةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا تَؤُمَّ أَحَدًا فِي إِمْرَتِهِ وَلَا تَجْلِسْ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَكَ»

✧ From the Messenger of God ﷺ, he said: "The one who should lead a people in prayer is the best reciter of the Book of God among them; if they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable of them in the Sunnah; if they are equal in knowledge of the Sunnah, then the earliest of them in emigration; if they are equal in emigration, then the eldest of them. Do not lead anyone in his command, and do not sit on his place of honor in his house unless he gives you permission."
