حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقَطَوَانِيُّ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ إنِّي لَأَتَأَخَّرُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ فُلَانٍ مِمَّا يُطَوِّلُ بِنَا فَمَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَطُّ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ مِنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ وَأَيُّكُمْ مَا صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيَتَجَوَّزْ؛ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ»

✧ O Messenger of God, by God, I indeed stay away from the dawn prayer because of so-and-so, on account of how long he prolongs it for us. I never saw the Prophet ﷺ more intensely angry in an admonition than he was that day. He said, “O people, among you are those who drive others away. Whoever of you leads the people in prayer should be brief, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with needs.”
