✧ When Abu Bakr returned and the people had completed their Hajj, ʿUrwah b. Masʿūd al-Thaqafī came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and embraced Islam. Then he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to return to his people. He said, "I fear that they will kill you." He replied, "If they found me sleeping, they would not wake me." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted him. He returned to al-Ṭāʾif and served dinner. Thaqīf came to greet him, so he called them to Islam and advised them sincerely. They accused him, disobeyed him, and made him hear such harm as he had not feared from them. They left him, and when the last part of the night came and dawn broke, he stood on an upper room in his house, called the adhān for prayer, and pronounced the shahādah. A man from Quraysh shot him with an arrow and killed him.
