حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مِقْلَاصٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ الْعُرْسَ بْنَ عُمَيْرَةَ وَكَان مِن أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إنَّ الْمَرْءَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْل النَّارِ الْبُرْهَةَ مِن دَهْرِهِ ثُمّ تُعْرَضُ لَه الْجَادَّةُ مِن جَوَادِّ الْجَنَّةِ فَيَعْمَلُ بِهَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَيْهَا وَذَلِك لِمَا كُتِبَ لَه وَإنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ الْبُرْهَةَ مِن دَهْرِهِ ثُمّ تُعْرَضُ لَه الْجَادَّةُ مِن جَوَادِّ النَّارِ فَيَعْمَلُ بِهَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَيْهَا وَذَلِك لِمَا كُتِبَ لَهُ

✧ I heard Al-Ars bin 'Umairah, who was one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Verily, a person may perform the actions of the people of the Fire throughout his life, until there is only an arm's length between him and Hell, but then what has been written for him overcomes him and he does the actions of the people of Paradise and enters Paradise. And verily, a person may perform the actions of the people of Paradise throughout his life, until there is only an arm's length between him and Paradise, but then what has been written for him overcomes him and he does the actions of the people of the Fire and enters Hell."
