✧ From ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd al-Sulamī, one of the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ, he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'The slain are three types of men. A believing man who strives with his wealth and his self in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that is the martyr who boasts in the tent of God beneath His Throne; the prophets do not surpass him except by the degree of prophethood. And a believing man who has burdened himself with sins and errors, then strives with his wealth and his self in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that is a rinsing of his sins and errors, for the sword is a wiper away of errors, and he will enter from whichever of the gates of Paradise he wishes, for it has eight gates, some being better than others, and Hell has seven gates. And a hypocritical man who strives with his self and his wealth in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that one is in the Fire, for the sword does not wipe away hypocrisy.'
