✧ From ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd, the companion of the Messenger of God ﷺ, from the Prophet ﷺ, he said: 'The slain are of three types. A believing man who strives with his wealth and his self in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that is the martyr who boasts in the tent of God beneath His Throne; they are not surpassed except by the rank of prophethood. And a believing man who has burdened himself with sins and errors, then strives with his self and his wealth in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that is a rinsing of his sins and errors, for the sword is a wiper away of errors, and he will enter from whichever of the gates of Paradise he wishes, for it has eight gates, and Hell has seven gates, some being better than others. And a hypocritical man who strives with his self and his wealth in the path of God, until when he meets the enemy and fights them until he is killed; that one is in the Fire, for the sword does not wipe away hypocrisy.'
