- Muḥammad b. Zakariyyā al-Ghalābī
- al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Faḍl b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abū Sawiyyah al-Minqarī ḥ
✧ He said: “I asked my father about what you asked me. He said: I set out as one of four men from Banu Tamim. I was one of them, along with Sufyan b. Mujashiʿ b. Darim, Usama b. Malik b. Jundub b. al-ʿAnbar, Yazid b. Rabiʿa b. Kinabiyya b. Hurqus b. Mazin, and Yazid b. Jafna b. Malik b. Ghassan in Syria. When we arrived in Syria, we stopped at a watering place with trees belonging to a hermit, meaning the owner of a monastic cell. We said: If only we could wash from this water, anoint ourselves, and put on our clothes, then go to our companion. The hermit looked down at us and said: This is a language that is not the language of the people of this land. We said: Yes, we are people from Mudar. He said: From which Mudar? We said: From Khindif. He said: Verily, a prophet will soon be sent from among you, so hasten and take your share from him and you will be rightly guided, for he is the seal of the prophets. We said: What is his name? He said: Muhammad. When we returned from the son of Jafna, a son was born to each one of us, and he named him Muhammad.” Al-ʿAlaʾ said: Qays b. ʿAsim said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Do you know who was the first of the Arabs to know about you before you were sent?” He said, “No.” He said, “Banu Tamim,” and he told him this story.
