✧ He informed him that 'Amr b. 'Awf, who was an ally of Banu 'Amir and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of God ﷺ, informed him that the Messenger of God ﷺ sent Abu 'Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah to al-Bahrayn, and he brought its jizya. The Messenger of God ﷺ had made peace with al-Bahrayn and appointed al-'Ala' b. al-Hadrami over them. Abu 'Ubaydah arrived with wealth from al-Bahrayn, and the Ansar heard of his arrival, so they attended the dawn prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ. When he had prayed, he left, and they approached him. He smiled when he saw them and said: 'I think you have heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaydah and that he has brought something?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Rejoice and hope for what pleases you. By God, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out for you as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will distract you as it distracted them.'
