حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ مَوْلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ أَوْ عِكْرِمَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ §لَمَّا أَسْلَمَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ وَثَعْلَبَةُ بْنُ سَعْيَةَ وَأَسَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ وَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنْ يَهُودَ فَآمَنُوا وَصَدَّقُوا وَرَغِبُوا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَالَتْ

أَحْبَارُ يَهُودَ أَهْلُ الْكُفْرِ مَا آمَنَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَلَا تَبِعَهُ إِلَّا شِرَارُنا وَلَوْ كَانُوا مِنْ خِيَارِنَا مَا تَرَكُوا دِينَ آبَائِهِمْ فَأنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِمْ {لَيْسُوا سَوَاءً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ}

✧ The Jews are disbelievers who did not believe in Muhammad, and none followed him except our evil ones. Even if they were among our best, they would not have abandoned their religion of their forefathers. So Allah revealed concerning them from His saying, "They are not equal to the people of the Book" to His saying "from the righteous."
