✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he recited this verse: “Indeed, Allah does not love any arrogant boaster.” He mentioned pride and magnified it, and Thabit b. Qays wept. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said to him, “What makes you weep?” He replied, “O Prophet of Allah, I love beauty, so much so that I would be pleased if the strap of my sandal were fine.” He said, “Then you are one of the people of Paradise. Pride is not that you make your mount and your saddle fine; rather pride is one who rejects the truth and despises people.”
