حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْمُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ أَدْرَكْتُ عُثْمَانَ ؓ وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ قَدْ رَاهَقْتُ الْحُلُمَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَخْطُبُ وَشَهِدْتُهُ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَا تَنْقِمُونَ عَلَيَّ؟» قَالَ وَمَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ إِلَّا وَهُمْ يَقْتَسِمُونَ فِيهِ خَيْرًا يَقُولُ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النَّاسِ اغْدُوا عَلَى عَطِيَّاتِكُمْ» فَيَغْدُونَ فَيَأْخُذُونَهَا وَافِرَةً ثُمَّ يُقَالُ «يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اغْدُوا عَلَى كِسْوَتِكُمْ» فَيُجَاءُ بِالْحُلَلِ فَتُقْسَمُ بَيْنَهُمْ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ «وَالْعَدُوُّ مَنْفِيُّ وَالْعَطِيَّاتُ دَارَّةٌ وَذَاتُ الْبَيْنِ حَسَنٌ وَالْخَيْرُ كَثِيرٌ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مُؤْمِنٌ يَخَافُ مُؤْمِنًا مَنْ لَقِيَ مِنْ أَيِّ الْأَحْيَاءِ كَانَ فَهُوَ أَخُوهُ وَمَوَدَّتُهُ وَنُصْرَتُهُ وَالْفِتْنَةُ أَنْ يَسُلَّ عَلَيْهِ سَيْفًا»

✧ I heard al-Hasan say: I reached the time of Uthman ؓ when I was then near puberty, and I heard him delivering a sermon, and I witnessed him saying: “O people, what do you hold against me?” He said: And there was no day but they would share in some good. He would say: “O people, come in the morning for your gifts,” so they would come and take them in full. Then it would be said: “O Muslims, come in the morning for your clothing,” so fine robes would be brought and divided among them. Al-Hasan said: “The enemy is repelled, gifts are flowing, harmony is good, and good is abundant. No believer on earth fears another believer. Whomever he meets, from whatever tribe he is, he is his brother, his friend, and his supporter. The tribulation is that someone draws a sword against him.”
