✧ In his saying, "{If you are given this, take it, and if you are not given it, be cautious}," they were the Jews. A woman among them committed adultery, and Allah had ruled in the Torah regarding stoning for adultery. So, they wanted to stone her. They said, "Go to Muhammad, perhaps he has a dispensation in this matter." So, they went to him and said, "O Abu al-Qasim, a woman among us has committed adultery. What do you say about her?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "How did Allah rule in the Torah regarding adultery?" They said, "Leave the Torah aside, what do you have in that matter?" He said, "Bring me your most knowledgeable person about the Torah that was revealed to Moses ﷺ." So, they brought him a man, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "By the One who saved you from the people of Pharaoh and split the sea for you and saved you, and drowned the people of Pharaoh, has Allah informed you about the ruling in the Torah regarding adultery?" They said, "He ruled for stoning."
