حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ قَالَا ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَكَّامٍ قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ وَأَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ حَكَّامٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي جَمْرَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
أَنَّ وَفْدَ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ لَمَّا قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ الْقَوْمُ؟» قَالُوا رَبِيعَةُ قَالَ «مَرْحَبًا بِالْوَفْدِ غَيْرِ الْخَزَايَا وَلَا النَّادِمِينَ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا حَيٌّ مِنْ رَبِيعَةَ وَإِنَّا نَأْتِيكَ مِنْ شُقَّةٍ بَعِيدَةٍ وَإِنَّهُ يَحُولُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ هَذَا الْحَيُّ مِنْ كُفَّارِ مُضَرَ وَإِنَّا لَا نَصِلُ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا فِي شَهْرٍ حَرَامٍ فَمُرْنَا بِأَمْرٍ فَصْلٍ تَدْعُو إِلَيْهِ وَنَدْعُو إِلَيْهِ مَنْ وَرَاءَنَا وَنَدْخُلُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ آمُرُكُمْ بِأَرْبَعٍ وَأَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعٍ آمُرُكُمْ بِالْإِيمَانِ بِاللهِ شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الْإِيمَانُ؟ شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَإِقَامُ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءُ الزَّكَاةِ وَصَوْمُ رَمَضَانَ وَأَنْ تُعْطُوا مِنَ الْغَنَائِمِ الْخُمُسَ وَأَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعٍ عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ قَالَ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ وَالْمُقَيَّرِ احْفَظُوهُنَّ وَادْعُوا إِلَيْهِنَّ مَنْ وَرَاءَكُمْ

✧ When the delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: “Who are the people?” They said: “Rabiʿah.” He said: “Welcome to the delegation, not disgraced nor regretful.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, we are a clan of Rabiʿah, and we come to you from a distant land. Between us and you lies this clan of the disbelievers of Mudar, and we cannot reach you except in a sacred month. So command us with a decisive matter to which you call and to which we call those behind us, and by which we may enter Paradise.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I command you with four things and forbid you from four. I command you with faith in Allah, the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Do you know what faith is? It is the testimony that there is no god but Allah, the establishment of prayer, the giving of zakah, fasting Ramadan, and that you give one-fifth of the spoils. And I forbid you from four: from the dubba’, the hantam, the naqir, and the muzaffat.” He said: “And perhaps he said: and the muqayyar. Memorize them and call to them those behind you.”
