✧ The first to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about nabidh were the delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays. They came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land of abundant vegetation, and we obtain fresh herbs, so he ordered us to prepare a drink. He said: "Soak [dates or raisins] in waterskins, but do not soak in earthenware jars, nor in gourds, nor in vessels smeared with pitch, nor in hollowed-out stumps, for I have been forbidden wine, gambling, and the kubah, which is the drum, and every intoxicant is unlawful." They said: O Messenger of Allah, what if it becomes strong? He said: "Pour water over it." They said: O Messenger of Allah, what if it becomes strong? He said: "Pour water over it." He said on the third or fourth time: "When it becomes strong, then pour it out."
