حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ قَالَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ أَظُنُّهُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي مَسْأَلَةً وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ قُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ كَانَتْ قَبْلِي رُسُلٌ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ سَخَّرْتَ لَهُمُ الرِّيَاحَ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ كَانَ يُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى قَالَ أَلَمْ أَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فآوَيْتُكَ؟ أَلَمْ أَجِدْكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَيْتُكَ؟ أَلَمْ أَجِدْكَ عَائِلًا فَأَغْنَيْتُكَ؟ أَلَمْ أَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ وَوَضَعْتُ عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَبِّ ولَفْظُهُما وَاحِدٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said — and al-Husayn b. Ishaq al-Tustari narrated to us, Abu al-Rabiʿ al-Zahrani narrated to us, Hammad b. Zayd narrated to us, from ʿAta' b. al-Sa'ib, from Saʿid b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbas ؓ: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I asked my Lord a question that I wish I had not asked. I said: O Lord, before me there were messengers, some of whom You subjected the winds to, and some of whom used to revive the dead. He said: Did I not find you an orphan and give you shelter? Did I not find you astray and guide you? Did I not find you poor and enrich you? Did I not expand your chest for you and remove from you your burden? I said: Yes, O Lord. And their wording is the same.
