✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: “The Children of Israel appointed a successor over themselves, and he stood praying in the moonlight above Bayt al-Maqdis. He mentioned things he had done, then he lowered himself by a rope, and in the morning the rope was hanging from the mosque while he had gone. He set off until he came to a people on the seashore, and he found them making bricks. He asked them, ‘How much do you charge for these bricks?’ They told him, so he made bricks with them and ate from the work of his own hands. When prayer time came, he purified himself and prayed. That worker reported him to their village chief, saying, ‘Among us is a man who does such and such.’ So he sent for him, but he refused to come to him. Then he came riding on his mount, and when he saw him he fled. He pursued him and overtook him and said, ‘Wait, let me speak a word to you.’ He stood until he spoke to him and told him that he had been a king and that he had fled from fear of his sin. He said, ‘I will join you in that.’ So they both worshipped Allah and asked Allah to cause them to die together, and they both died.” ʿAbdullāh said: “If I were at the sands of Egypt, I would show you their graves,” describing it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did.
