✧ On the day of Badr, when they brought the captives, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Abu Bakr and said: “What do you think about these?” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, they are your people. If you kill them, they will enter the Fire. If you take ransom from them, then whoever accepts Islam will be a support for us, and whoever refuses we will take his ransom.” He said: “What do you think, O Umar?” He said: “I think you should present them and strike their necks. These are the leaders of disbelief and the commanders of disbelief. By Allah, they were not satisfied until they expelled us, and they were the first of the Arabs to raid us.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O Abu Bakr, your likeness is that of Ibrahim ﷺ when he said: {Whoever follows me is of me, and whoever disobeys me—indeed You are Forgiving and Merciful}. As for you, O Umar, your likeness is that of Nuh when he said: {My Lord, do not leave upon the earth any inhabitant from among the disbelievers}.”
