✧ Abdullah [Ibn Masud] said: I was concealing myself behind the curtains of the Ka'bah. Three persons came, with much fat on their bellies and little understanding in their hearts: a Qurayshi and his two brothers-in-law, who were Thaqafis, or a Thaqafi and his two brothers-in-law, who were Qurayshis. They spoke words I did not understand. One of them said, "Do you think Allah hears our words?" Another said, "If we raise our voices, He hears them; if we do not raise them, He does not hear them." The third said, "If He hears anything from it, He hears all of it." I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Allah ﷻ sent down: {And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing should testify against you, or your sight} – the verse.
