حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السِّمْسَارُ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ أنا خَالِدٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ
أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ وَالنَّاسُ يُسَلِّمُ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ عَبْدُ اللهِ سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ غَضَبِ اللهِ وَغَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ سَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْكَ فَلَمْ تُرَدَّ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لَشُغْلًا»

✧ That he had gone out to the land of Abyssinia, and the people used to greet one another during the prayer. When ʿAbdullāh returned, he greeted the Prophet ﷺ and he did not respond. When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished, he said: 'I seek refuge in God from the anger of God and the anger of His Messenger. I greeted you and you did not respond to me.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Indeed, in the prayer there is occupation.'
