حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ قَالَ حَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ أَوْ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ شَكَّ مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
كَانَ النَّاسُ يَرُدُّ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ السَّلَامَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَقَعَدَ حَزِينًا يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ قَدْ نَزَلَ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ صَلَاتَهُ ذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لَشُغْلًا وَكَفَى بِالصَّلَاةِ شُغْلًا»

✧ People used to return the greeting to one another during the prayer, until Ibn Masʿūd ؓ greeted the Prophet ﷺ and he did not respond to him. He sat down sad, imagining that something had been revealed concerning him. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, Ibn Masʿūd mentioned that to him, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Indeed, in the prayer there is enough occupation, and the prayer suffices as an occupation.'
