حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ الصَّدَفِيُّ الْمِصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْمَدَنِيُّ الْفِهْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمَدَنِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

لَمَّا أَذْنَبَ آدَمُ ﷺ الذَّنْبَ الَّذِي أَذْنَبَهُ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَى الْعَرْشِ، فَقَالَ: أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ إِلَّا غَفَرْتَ لِي ! فَأَوْحَى اللهُ إِلَيْهِ " وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ ؟ وَمَنْ مُحَمَّدٌ ؟ " فَقَالَ: تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ ! لَمَّا خَلَقْتَنِي رَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي إِلَى عَرْشِكَ، فَإِذَا فِيهِ مَكْتُوبٌ « لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ » فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَعْظَمَ عِنْدَكَ قَدْرًا مِمَّنْ جَعَلْتَ اسْمَهُ مَعَ اسْمِكَ ! فَأَوْحَى اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ: " يَا آدَمُ، إِنَّهُ آخِرُ النَّبِيِّينَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَهُ آخِرُ الْأُمَمِ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ، وَلَوْلَاهُ يَا آدَمُ مَا خَلَقْتُكَ

✧ When Ādam ﷺ committed the sin that he committed, he raised his head toward the Throne and said: “I ask You by the right of Muḥammad, that You forgive me.” God revealed to him: “What is Muḥammad? Who is Muḥammad?” He said: “Blessed be Your name! When You created me, I raised my head toward Your Throne, and there was written on it: ‘There is no god but God; Muḥammad is the Messenger of God.’ So I knew that no one has greater standing with You than the one whose name You placed with Your name.” Then God, Mighty and Majestic, revealed to him: “O Ādam, he is the last of the prophets from your descendants, and his community is the last of the communities from your descendants. Were it not for him, O Ādam, I would not have created you.”
