✧ A man used to go to 'Uthman b. 'Affan ؓ concerning a need of his, but 'Uthman would not turn to him nor look into his need. So he met 'Uthman b. Hunayf and complained about that to him. 'Uthman b. Hunayf said to him: 'Go to the place of ablution and perform wudu', then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, then say: "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad, I turn by you to your Lord [my Lord], Mighty and Majestic, that He may fulfill my need." And mention your need, then come to me so that I may go with you.' So the man went and did what 'Uthman told him. Then he came to the door of 'Uthman, and the doorkeeper came and took him by the hand and brought him into 'Uthman b. 'Affan, who seated him with him on the cushion and said: 'Your need?' He mentioned his need, and he fulfilled it for him. Then he said to him: 'I did not remember your need until this very hour,' and he said: 'Whatever need you have, come to us.' Then the man left him and met 'Uthman b. Hunayf and said to him: 'May Allah reward you well. He had not been looking into my need nor turning to me until you spoke to him about me.' 'Uthman b. Hunayf said: 'By Allah, I did not speak to him. But I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a blind man came to him and complained to him about the loss of his sight. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Will you not be patient?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it has become hard for me." The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu', then pray two rak'ahs, then supplicate with these words." 'Uthman said: "By Allah, we had not parted and the conversation had not gone on long before the man entered upon us as if he had never had any affliction at all."
