حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبٌ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي رَيْحَانَةَ، أَنَّهُ
كَانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ، فَأَوْيَنَا ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى شَرَفٍ، فَأَصَابَنَا فِيهِ بَرْدٌ شَدِيدٌ، حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا الرِّجَالَ يَحْفِرُ أَحَدُهُمُ الْحُفْرَةَ، فَيَدْخُلُ فِيهَا وَيُكْفِئُ عَلَيْهِ حَجَفَتَهُ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى مِنْهُمْ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ: مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ ؟ فَأَدْعُو اللهَ لَهُ بِدُعَاءٍ يُصِيبُ فَضْلَهُ "، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: " مَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ " قَالَ: أَنَا فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ: " ادْنُهُ "، فَدَنَا مِنْهُ، وَأَخَذَ بِبَعْضِ ثِيَابِهِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَفْتَحَ بِالدُّعَاءِ، قَالَ أَبُو رَيْحَانَةَ: فَلَمَّا سَمِعْتُ مَا يَدْعُو بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلْأَنْصَارِيِّ قُمْتُ، فَقُلْتُ: أَنَا رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَسَأَلَنِي كَمَا سَأَلَهُ، وَقَالَ لِي: " ادْنُهُ " كَمَا قَالَ لَهُ، وَدَعَا لِي بِدُعَاءٍ دُونَ مَا دَعَا بِهِ لِلْأَنْصَارِيِّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " حُرِّمَتِ النَّارُ عَلَى عَيْنٍ سَهِرَتْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَحُرِّمَتِ النَّارُ عَلَى عَيْنٍ دَمَعَتْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللهِ

✧ He was with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a military expedition. One night we sought shelter at a high place, and we were struck by severe cold, until we saw men digging holes and entering them, covering themselves with their shields. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw that, he said: "Who will guard us tonight? I will supplicate to God for him with a supplication that will bring him its merit." A man stood up and said: "I will, O Messenger of God." He said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am so-and-so son of so-and-so, the Ansari." He said: "Come closer." He came closer, and he took hold of some of his garments, then began the supplication. Abu Rayhanah said: When I heard what the Messenger of God ﷺ was supplicating for the Ansari, I stood up and said: "I am a man, O Messenger of God." He asked me as he had asked him, and said to me: "Come closer," as he had said to him, and he supplicated for me with a supplication less than what he had supplicated for the Ansari. Then he said: "The Fire is forbidden for an eye that stays awake in the path of God, and the Fire is forbidden for an eye that weeps from fear of God."
