وَبِهِ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُرَّةَ، قَالَ: ذَكَرَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُدْعَانَ، أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

أُوصِيكَ بِاثْنَتَيْنِ: لَا تَسْأَلَنَّ عَمَلًا، إِنَّكَ إِنْ تُعْطَهْ بَعْدَ مَسْأَلَتِهِ تُوكَلْ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِنَّكَ إِنْ تُعْطَهْ عَنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ تُعَنْ عَلَيْهِ، وَإِنْ حَلَفْتَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ، فَرَأَيْتَ غَيْرَهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا فَأْتِ الَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ، وَكَفِّرْ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ

Translation

✧ I enjoin upon you two things: Do not ask for an office, for if you are given it after asking, you will be left to it alone; but if you are given it without asking, you will be helped in it. And if you swear an oath and then see something better than it, do what is better and expiate your oath.
